The Gospel According To Me
I have a pet peeve.
Ok, so I have a few pet peeves:
Mouth noises i.e. the sound of a person eating crunchy things like potato chips, raw carrots, tic tacs (which harkens me back ten years to the absolute weirdest person I’ve ever had to work with, who was so weird and odd, and not in a good way, that the sight of a Tic Tac causes me to shake and rock back and forth uncontrollably), or gum popping.
Another peeve is “You go, Girl.” ‘Nuff said.
Another pet peeve that is the ultimate in nails-on-a-chalkboard aggravation for me is…the overuse of the word “awesome.”
People are sooo into saying this is awesome or that is awesome when, nine times out of ten, whatever they are declaring as “awesome”…isn’t.
That’s not saying your kid playing t-ball isn’t swell as all git out but awesome? Something that makes one think “HOW DOES that happen?” can be considered awesome. Knowtumsayin?
Mr. Webster says this about this word, awesome…
A tornado is awesome. Other forces of nature are awesome-volcanoes, lightning, the Northern Lights, the first time you feel your baby move in your belly, Finishing a marathon or losing a lot of weight or accomplishing something against all odds, overcoming adversity, climbing Mt. Everest…those things are awesome.
Other things of awesomeness….Paula Deen’s Gooey Butter Cakes, Ella Fitzgerald’s voice, sunrises, sunsets, the way a catepillar changes into a butterfly by making itself a cocoon, the way Pinky knew to go to Newscoma and Them’s house in Hooterville and how she (and other new mother’s be they canine, human or whatever) instinctively know how to take care of their babies…things that are truly amazing and unexplainable ARE awesome.

Awesome post!
(Sorry. Honestly couldn’t help it.) (I abhor its overuse, too.)
Well shit. I always say awesome. ::hangs head in shame::
