Ironic that I wrote about Tater Tate and Brent Burkett dying from Lung Cancer the other day and mentioning that Porter was hospitalized when come to find out today that he is also fighting lung cancer.
And he’s another one of those that I can see, plain as day on their way to the Opry stage, with the ever-present ciggarette in their fingers. Dang.
Porter is still vital to country music, as you can <a href=”“>see on this clip from his recent appearance on David Letterman and from his new cd.
Keep praying for Porter.

The other thing I thought of this weekend was that if Dolly went and visited him in the hospital (and offered to sing with him on his first night back on the Opry–obviously for motivation to keep fighting to get well), it must be bad.

He has really looked pretty poorly since he had that situation about a year ago. It seems he also had prostate cancer a few years back.

Lung cancer is awful! I hate watching my mother go through what she did having half a lung removed and the horrific way she felt through chemo and radiation. Thankfully she is clean for the past 18 months – thank the Lord! And she is a non-smoker. It is just one of those things.
The German and I plan on trying to quit before the end of the year. Not only for our own sake but as a tribute to my mother.
