Does It REALLY Matter?

So Pacman Jones has surrendered in Las Vegas.  Whoop. Tee. Doo.  Next please…

Y’know, I’d rather hear the news tell us more about the 9 firemen who died in Charleston earlier this week than hear about this bozo anymore.  Those guys deserve any praise and attention we can give them.

Are we shocked or surprised His No Brain-ness has gotten in trouble again?  Really sick of Pacman being the lead story on every newscast.

Is football THIS important?

A couple years ago, I started noticing Neil Orne talking about his “blog” and seeing these commercials, usually very early in the morning, on Channel 2 for something called “Nashville Is Talking.”  I checked it out and the first blogs I remember reading were those of Neil, Busy Mom and Rex L. Camino.  I found the blogs to be entertaining and interesting and remember thinking “I could do that.”  I started me a blog and wrote a couple entries and thought I sounded stupid (kinda like listening to yourself on a tape recorder) and I just kinda left it there.  I still read the blogs regularly and picked up blogging again in December, 2005 on a regular basis.

I think it was in January, 2006, I sheepishly emailed this girl named Brittney who was over Nashville Is Talking and said something like “Can you add my blog? If you don’t want to, that’s ok.”  HA!

Brittney added my silly little blog and in a weird sort of way, helped to change my life.  That may sound strange, but, really, this little spot on the world wide web has changed my life in ways I never dreamed. Yeah, I’ve met people and stuff, but, it’s done something more for me inside than I can really adequately explain.

Brittney has done an amazing job the last two years manning the NiT steering wheel.  Everytime I’ve done the weekend thing, I’ve had more appreciation for what Brittney did everyday.  I will miss her being at NiT everyday, but, praise the Lord, Sparkwood and 21 is still going.  I think there are great things awaiting our girl from here on out.  I hope she’ll come out and around this crazy bunch of people she’s helped to bring together. Brittney’s a good girl.  I hate she’s gotten burned out, but, good-ness, I can see how/why she has.  That’s why I have no desire to be paid to write.

I’ve done a little professional writing and I like doing this right here a lot more.  This Brittney situation here is also why I don’t like to blog about politics or issues.  Arguing about that stuff is not fun to me.  It is to some, I guess and that’s dandy.   It hurts my feelings when people talk bad about Christians, but, I make it a point to try to avoid the blogs I know are going to be talking hateful about me and my kind.  That way, I can still like them as people and appreciate who they are and we just skip that sorta thing.  Ya dig?  It works out just fine.

That said, I’m sorry to see Brittney give up her post.  Maybe she just needs a good vacation.  Either way, she’s a darling and very talented person and she’s going to do very well whatever direction she takes.

Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette

This stuff about this smoking ban in Tennessee made me laugh.  I got pretty tickled at that legislator (don’t know his name) who was fussing about “What minority are we gonna pick on next…fat people?  Then, are we gonna tax country ham and cookies?”  Heh.  Good one.

Thing about smokers being “minorities” though is a bit of the warsh of the hog, if you catch my drift.

I am not against smokers.  I was one for a long time. (For the record, I have not been a smoker since August 15, 2006, and Mr. Smiff stopped around October 1) I just don’t think smokers are in the minority.  Why?  Because every morning on, when I’m on my way to work, nearly every car I see contains someone smoking.  I think lots of people sneak cigarrettes. I think lots of people tell their family they’ve quit but they’re still at it.

My closest friend when I was a little girl…her daddy claimed to have quit smoking to his family.  However, because we lived right behind them, I’d see him go outside at night and go to town.  I think this is what all these other people I see on Vietnam Veterans Bypass and I-65 do too.

Even where I used to work, very few would go outside and smoke during breaks, but, I saw many a person light up, in their car leaving work…people nobody knew smoked.

Gosh, everybody used to smoke.  I can remember as a kid, going into Sunday School every Sunday morning, there would be a crowd of men standing not far from the door smoking.  This was a Baptist church, too.  I think the Baptists are still smoking (and everybody else) they’re just sneaking around to indulge.

I hope I don’t ever start again.  It’s too expensive and I had already started hearing myself make that little sound that smokers make when they laugh…I’ve heard it come out of my mother, Paula Deen has it and I was beginning to sound like Lucille Ball in the mornings.  How did I quit?  I had scary bronchitis and couldn’t breathe.  I had visions of me hauling an oxygen tank around and decided it wasn’t becoming.  I don’t miss it.  Mr. Smiff does though.

Classic clip here with the hilarious and curmudgeonly Grandpa Jones and the late Billy Walker.

Go Rachel, Go!

Rachel Smith is a great American and a great Tennessean.  Had that been me who slipped and fell on my tuckus on live television, I’d have gotten up and ran off crying.  Had I been booed by the Mexican audience, I’d have given them the finger.  Instead, she had the smarts to address them in their language.  Good thinking, Rachel.

One of my favorite Missoura bloggers, Dave, sums the whole thing up better than I can.

Poor Wynonna

wynonna.jpgTurns Turns out the guy she thought was her knight in shining armor….wasn’t so shiny afterall.  It’s really sad.   Say a prayer for her.

I’ve always felt a teeny bond with Wynonna.  I guess it’s because I remember them before they were famous.  I remember the Judd girls from school and church, but, I have always felt bad for them.  Their crazy mother robbed them of a normal upbringing and they’ve suffered through their adult lives because of it.  I really feel sad for her about this.

My Political Thought For The Month

This thing about Al Gore and the security thing at the airport?  I am no fan of Al Gore.  I want that to be very clear.  It has nothing to do with Democrat vs. Republican, I just can’t stand him.  However, I feel like that as a former Vice President, there’s some priviledges he’s entitled to.  I don’t think he deserves an Academy Award, but, I think he can slide through security and not have to take his shoes off at the airport just  as I think Bill Clinton, Big George Bush, Dan Quayle, Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale should be able to.

That is my political thought for the month.

They should get the unburied corpse of James Brown and the unburied corpse (but now embalmed.  Praise!) of Anna Nicole Smith and send them on the road.  You know…like a traveling road show. Americans are just dumb enough to eat that up.

Dig if you will, just prop them both up and have recordings of James doing his thing (Heyyyyyy!!!!!) and that soundclips from the Anna Nicole Show, like this one. Howard K. Stern would make millions.
