Big hugs and shouts of love to Hairl Hensley, currently of Sirius radio, but, for bazillions of years of WSM Radio and one of the voices of the Grand Ole Opry is recovering from a heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery. From what I understand, Hairl’s had a rough time.
The sound of Hairl Hensley’s voice, to me, is as comforting and warm as a first cup of morning coffee. Hairl just has “Home” written all over him. I imagine had I ever moved away from Nashville, the sound of his voice would’ve made me homesick. Hairl is definitely one of the nice guys of Nashville.

I certainly wish Mr. Hensley well. I visit the Roadhouse quite often.

Yes, the best of wishes for Hairl’s speedy recovery. Great voice, Great DJ.
We consider him a home boy over here in east Tenn. He was in the same class in high school as my aunt, who is a year or three younger than my mother.
Oh, speaking of east Tenn, are you and the fam gonna take advantage of Dollywood while the guys are playing or is life too complicated to do a theme park at this time of year?? I’ll be working all that weekend, hoping against hope to be able to make it to IBMA myself for the FIRST time.

Hairl’s first radio job was with WDEH Sweetwater, TN, which was owned by some of your relatives… Art Smith & Frank Mullinax. The late Louis Penual was General Manager. Lou ended up at Channel 5 in Nashville for years. Your cousin Jim Brock was Commercial Manager, which means he was the salesman. Jim and Hairl shared a trailer home there in Sweetwater.

Jerald-We would’ve done the Dollywood thing had they not had a date the day before and after. Too complicated right now.
Cousin Terry- I remember going there one time in the 80’s to Channel 5 with Dad to a meeting he had with him about something. Don’t even remember what it was.
Speaking of my Collie kin…I recorded “The Heavenly Kid” last week and have started finally watching it after all these years. Lewis was YOUNG! He has that Collie hair, for sure.
Where’ve you been Cuzzin??? Hope you and the Mrs. are doing ok.
